The Brand New Runner

New to running, or returning after a long break?

Make sure you get going with the strongest possible start… This is a two-hour practical and fun workshop covering the basics of biomechanics and good running form, the importance of using a plan, and how to keep strong and ward-off injury.  We’ve also got some useful tips and tricks to help you stay focused when things get tough, and we discuss who to turn to should you need help and support.  It’s perfect for you on your own or bring a buddy.

Although highly practical this workshop is based mainly indoors, with some running, run/walking and movement work outside.  Layered clothing and trainers are required.  No children under 16 please.  Groups are kept deliberately small in number to ensure adequate instruction.

Everyone welcome! Tea, coffee and chocolate on-tap.

Duration: 2 hours

Your Personal Running Toolkit

Heard of Prehab?  It’s a buzzword right?

As a runner you need a personalised toolkit of exercises and recovery techniques plus the knowledge of how to deal with niggles as and when they arise.  You have to both reduce the risk of injury through your Prehab toolkit, and respond rapidly with the right techniques when injuries strike.

Prehab is only beneficial if it is a plan that’s specific to you, your body and your goal. Discover your own personal prehab toolkit comprising mobility, strength and recovery options. Highly practical session involving muscle and joint testing.

Everyone welcome! Tea, coffee and chocolate on-tap.  Groups are kept small in number to ensure adequate instruction.

Duration: 2 hours
Cost:£20

Yoga for Runners

Get ready to feel so, so much better 😊

As a team of Sports Therapists and Physios we regularly see runners with the same problems time and again… Restricted hips and spine, inactive gluteals as a consequence, and increased stress and anxiety caused by juggling a demanding training programme with the pressures of home and work.

These physical problems lead to injury and dysfunction, and nobody wants to be stressed, right?

We’ve teamed up with the brilliant Gemma of Yogatastic and designed a 6-week Yoga for Runners course specifically to smash these problems and to give you some bliss once a week.  Bonus!

Gemma practices a style of yoga called Yin, where postures are held for extended periods of time with the aid of blocks and bolsters.  She addresses problem areas for runners such as restriction of the flexors, and internal/external rotators of the hip.  The spine is also targeted with deep, luscious releasing twists and bends.  The session is quiet, slow, relaxing and taken entirely at your own level with some important functional strengthening work and a traditional Savasana relaxation at the end.

Practising regular Yin Yoga encourages the following physiological changes, which gives us two massive benefits; reduced injury risk, and improved mental health:

  • Release tension and restrictions in our connective tissues
  • Improve muscle ability to contract and relax
  • Increase joint lubrication for better joint health and an improved range of motion
  • Improve ‘fluid dynamics’ to help you recover from training
  • Calm the mind, reduce stress and fatigue, lower blood pressure.
Cost: £55

Six-week course

Yin Yoga for all

The power of Yin 😊

In Yin Yoga we enjoy passive postures where you are encouraged to relax into the support of the floor, supports and bolsters to soften muscle, release deep connective tissues, and open sticky joint spaces.  In each session of this 6-week course we will work through a sequence of movements that are held for extended periods of time, which allows the body to open, release and let go of unwanted tension and stress.

The practice is quiet, slow, relaxing, and taken entirely at your own level before a traditional Savasana relaxation.

Practising regular Yin Yoga encourages the following physiological changes, which gives us two great benefits; better muscle and joint function, and improved mental health:

No previous yoga experience is necessary.
Suitable and beneficial for everyone, including sports people as part of a prehab/mobility routine.
If you are currently experiencing an injury, living with medical conditions, or consider yourself to have any special considerations please contact us on booking.
