David – from setback to skateboarding success
5 December 2025When David injured his ankle skateboarding, he did what many people do and turned to online rehab advice and tried to fix it himself. It worked to a point, but eventually things plateaued. His ankle still felt stiff and unstable, especially when landing tricks, and he knew he needed clearer direction. That’s when he came to see Poppy, one of our Sports Therapists.
From the assessment, it was clear David was dealing with a lateral ankle sprain that hadn’t fully recovered. He still had pain on movement, reduced range of movement, and limited balance and confidence on the injured leg. Poppy explained exactly what was going on and how a structured plan would help him progress again.
Treatment started with hands-on work, soft tissue therapy and gentle joint mobilisation. This was followed by a progressive exercise programme tailored to skate-specific demands. His rehab included:
• Resistance band strengthening
• Calf strengthening
• Single-leg balance and wobble board work
• Lateral hops and landing mechanics
• Gradual return-to-skate drills
With consistent guidance and the right progression, David saw improvements quickly. Strength returned, stability improved, and he gained the confidence he’d been missing.
By the time he finished his sessions with Poppy, David was skating comfortably and managing his ankle well. He’s continued his exercises independently and remains on a great trajectory, proof that the right support can turn stalled progress into a strong recovery.
