Kate – return to netball post ACL & meniscus surgery
15 March 2026In January 2024, Kate, a committed netball player, sustained a significant knee injury that immediately disrupted her sport and training. What followed was a long and often frustrating period of uncertainty, with multiple MRIs and specialist consultations to determine whether surgery was required. For a full year, Kate managed symptoms, stayed as active as she safely could, and waited for clarity.
In January 2025, Kate underwent surgery to repair both her ACL and meniscus. She immediately began working closely with Luke, our lead practitioner at the Hub, carefully following strict post-operative guidelines from the surgeon. Together, they committed to a structured, evidence-based rehabilitation plan, progressing carefully through each stage of recovery.
Kate’s rehab focused on restoring knee range of motion, rebuilding strength through progressive loading, and gradually reintroducing running, change of direction, and impact work, as per the surgeon’s guidelines. A key part of her journey was adherence; Kate followed her guidance meticulously, completed her exercises consistently, and communicated openly with Luke at every stage. This allowed rehab to be progressed safely and confidently, without rushing key milestones.
One of the biggest challenges was psychological. After a serious knee injury, learning to jump, hop, and trust the knee again can be daunting. Kate faced this head on, working through graded plyometric drills and sport specific tasks, rebuilding confidence alongside physical capacity.
Fast forward to now and Kate is back to all forms of exercise. She is lifting heavier than before her injury and has smashed her preinjury personal bests over both 5 km and 10 km runs. Her return to performance is a testament to hard work, patience, and high-quality rehab.
Kate’s journey highlights what is possible when commitment, expert guidance, and progressive rehabilitation come together at the Hub.
