Izzy – ITB syndrome

Izzy came to see Tom Boggon, our running specialist in May complaining of pain on the outside of her knee. She had been managing this pain for a couple of months prior to seeing Tom, but now that it was affecting both her running and her day-to-day activities it was time to do something about it.

Tom completed a thorough assessment of her knee, hip, and foot – looking at her movement and strength, followed by specialist testing to further understand the cause of Izzy’s injury.  With all the testing and the reported pain, Tom thought that Izzy was struggling with Iliotibial Band Syndrome and got straight to work trying to help resolve the issue.

Over the course of five appointments, which included a variety of hands-on techniques, exercise progressions and running technique adjustments, Izzy started to notice big improvements across the board.  A reduction in her pain levels really helped focus her attention and efforts towards her rehab exercises from Tom. This allowed her to push herself, under Tom’s guidance, resulting in improved strength and functionality.

As a Sports Therapist Tom combines an in-depth knowledge of the mechanisms of injury within sport, advanced assessment of movement, extensive hands-on skills and a thorough understanding of rehabilitation exercises, to allow him to accurately diagnose, treat and prescribe exercises that can help with all areas of recovery. His additional running experience and qualifications enabled him to adjust Izzy’s training plan and running routine to help manage her pain throughout her recovery.

After a lot of hard work, we are pleased to say that Izzy is now back running comfortably and gradually building her distance back up again.

We look forward to continuing to support her and wish her the very best with her running progress!
