Karen’s return to running – from surgery to the London Marathon

In February 2023, Karen underwent surgery to remove a Haglund’s deformity and have her Achilles tendon debrided. It marked the end of a long battle with pain, but also the beginning of a slow, steady journey back to the thing she loved most, running.

Karen began working with our running specialist, Tom Boggon, to guide her post-surgical rehab and support her return to impact. Tom provided a clear, progressive plan that included targeted strength work, running drills, mobility sessions and hands-on treatment to help manage the load through the Achilles as it recovered.

Rehab was carefully structured around rebuilding strength, control and tolerance to running. As her confidence grew, so did her weekly mileage. With a sharp eye on technique and training load, Tom helped Karen build her engine and movement capacity back up, safely and sustainably.

Fast forward to April 2025, and Karen completed the London Marathon pain free. A huge milestone, and a proud moment after months of focused work and dedication.

Karen’s story is a brilliant example of what can be achieved with a clear plan, the right support, and a lot of patience. If you’re coming back from injury and need direction, we’re here to help.
