Sue – complex surgical rehab

Sue, an existing patient with us here at the Rehab Hub, sustained several serious injuries following a horsing incident. In August 2023, Sue was trampled by her own horse in a freak accident, resulting in a complex hip fracture, damage to her hand, ankle, and a minor head injury. Emergency surgery was required for her hip injury, following which she was back in touch with the Rehab Hub for ongoing and additional support to her care under the NHS.

Sue had previously seen Luke, our Lead Practitioner and Sports Therapist, and was keen to get booked back in. They have worked closely together for the past 12 months, following the guidance from the surgeon and implementing a progressive rehabilitation plan. This journey has not been without its ups and downs – Sue has excelled with most of her rehab, but there have been aspects of her plan that have posed real challenges to overcome. Never wavering, her hard work and determination to get back to daily life, and back on her horse, has enable her to push through all the tests thrown at her. Sue has been nothing short of inspirational!

In March 2024, Sue saw her consultant again and they were very happy with her progress. She was given the go ahead for a return to all activities, including working towards getting back on her horse. The intensity of her rehab progressed – Luke safely tested her limits, pushing her more and more to achieve her goals. This, in combination with Sue’s mindset, and some private work with a mechanical horse simulator, allowed her to get back on her horse, Molly, in June 2024 – an incredible achievement.

Sue has worked tirelessly throughout her rehab journey, tackling every obstacle thrown at her. She still attends regular sessions with Luke, fine tuning her rehab and providing ongoing treatment to tackle any aches and pains.

We wanted to celebrate your journey Sue, we are thrilled for you and wish you every success with your continued recovery!
