Heidi – knee rehab
15 September 2024Heidi visited the Rehab Hub with a knee injury in February 2024. She had played in a netball game 2-days prior and felt a pop, with pain, in the back of her knee having landed awkwardly after jumping for the ball. Heidi came to see our Lead Practitioner and Sports Therapist, Luke Denham. He completed a thorough assessment of her knee, looking at her movement and strength, followed by specialist testing to further understand what might have happened. This assessment, and an all clear from the hospital, gave her the greenlight to begin her rehab journey.
As a Sports Therapist, Luke combines an in-depth knowledge of the mechanisms of injury within sport, advanced assessment of movement, extensive hands-on skills and a thorough understanding of rehabilitation exercises, to allow him to accurately diagnose, treat and prescribe exercises that can help with all areas of recovery.
Over a period of 4-months, Heidi consistently attended sessions with Luke for some hands-on work, but mostly for rehab exercise guidance and progressions. This involved a progressive mobility and strength plan, and in the later stages when appropriate, some sport-specific netball drills, adding an element of fun to the rehab journey for both Luke and Heidi. One of the things we love here at the hub is really tuning in to the needs of our patients in relation to their goals, and working together in the clinic’s rehab suite, allowed them to work out exactly what Heidi needed to do to get back to netball safely.
After a lot of hard work, we are pleased to say that Heidi is now back on the netball court preparing for the summer league. Netball, and sport in general, plays a huge part in her life, and getting back to this was the primary goal. Heidi smashed every target we set, and went from strength to strength, pushing herself whilst adhering completely to the plan set out by Luke. We are so glad you are feeling better Heidi and back in action once again. Keep up the hard work Heidi!
