Hannah – complex knee

We would like to tell you about Hannah, who came to us with the very important goal of walking down the aisle at her wedding, after seriously injuring her knee in a skiing accident.

The accident left her unable to walk without support, and after multiple x-rays and an MRI scan, she was advised that she had torn her ACL, MCL, and PCL in her left knee, which is a pretty severe injury.

She initially came to see our senior physiotherapist, who completed a thorough assessment, looking at her movement and strength, followed by specialist testing to further understand her current position. With a planned surgery the following month, there was a lot of preparation that Hannah could be doing that would put her in the strongest position possible for the best surgical outcome.

Hannah’s rehabilitation, from post-operative care through to achieving her important goal in eight months’ time was led by Emily, our sports rehabilitator and MSK practitioner. She combines an in-depth knowledge of the mechanisms of injury and surgical rehabilitation, advanced assessment of movement, extensive hands-on skills and a thorough understanding of rehabilitation exercises.

Hannah worked tirelessly over the following few months, utilising Emily’s expertise to guide her through the early phase after surgery, through learning to walk properly again and progressing her mobility and strength routine which safely pushed Hannah through each stage.

After a lot of hard work, we are pleased to say that Hannah made it down the aisle pain-free and in heels, enjoyed her day, and danced confidently with her new husband!

Hannah had smashed every target she was set, and went from strength to strength, pushing herself whilst adhering completely to the plan set out by Emily. We are so glad you are feeling better Hannah, keep up the hard work!
